What survives is modest but quietly telling: a raised platform roughly 28 metres across, edged by the lower courses of a stone rampart whose upper sections have long since vanished.

The stone did not simply disappear. It was put to work. The wall was gradually dismantled, and the material carried off to build the field boundaries that still divide the surrounding farmland. It is a pattern repeated across the Irish countryside, where ancient structures were treated less as monuments than as convenient quarries. The cashel was substantial enough in its original form to require significant labour to construct, yet practical enough in its components to be worth dismantling stone by stone over the generations. The original entrance has been obscured entirely, leaving no clear indication of where inhabitants once passed in and out. Notably, the site does not appear on either the 1836 or 1876 editions of the Ordnance Survey, which suggests it was already so reduced by the nineteenth century that surveyors either missed it or considered it unremarkable.

What remains is easy to overlook precisely because it asks the visitor to do some interpretive work. The raised ground is the thing to focus on, and the low remnant of the rampart base that traces its edge. The dry-stone field walls nearby may well contain, unknowingly embedded within them, the same stones that once enclosed an early medieval household.
