The Geartys were heavily concentrated in Roscommon, home to 51.3% of them (59 people). Next came Meath (32), Longford (7), Cavan (6) and Dublin (4).

Geartys were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 98.3% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (1.7%).
