The enclosure measures 48 metres across and is defined by an earthen bank rising to about 1.7 metres, running from the east-south-east to the north-west. In one short section, the original stone facing on the outer edge of that bank is still exposed, a glimpse of the more deliberate construction beneath what now reads simply as a grassy mound. The interior is level, as is typical of these sites.

Ringforts, known in Irish as raths when built from earth and bank rather than stone, are among the most common monument types in the Irish landscape, with tens of thousands recorded across the island. Most date to the early medieval period, roughly between the fifth and twelfth centuries, and functioned primarily as enclosed farmsteads, the bank and sometimes an outer ditch providing a degree of security for a family and their livestock. The Lotamore example fits comfortably within that tradition: a single earthen enclosure, no elaborate multiple ramparts, occupying a slight elevation that would have given its inhabitants a useful vantage across the surrounding ground.

What gives this particular site a certain melancholy interest is its immediate context. A housing development sits directly to the north-west, and rubble has been dumped against the western face of the bank. The exposed stone facing on one side and the encroaching construction material on the other together tell a familiar story about how these monuments survive, which is to say partially, contingently, and often only because the ground beneath them has not yet been worth clearing entirely.
