The site consists of a roughly rectangular area, measuring 39 metres from north to south and 42 metres from east to west, surrounded by what would have once been an impressive defensive earthwork. Today, the earthen bank that enclosed this space still rises to about 1.15 metres on its outer face, though its inner height measures only 40 centimetres, suggesting centuries of erosion and settling.

The defensive nature of this site becomes clearer when examining the fosse, or ditch, that runs around the outside of the earthen bank. With a depth of 45 centimetres and a base width of 1.4 metres, this water-filled ditch would have provided an additional layer of protection for whoever occupied this fortified homestead during the medieval period. Such moated sites were typically constructed between the 13th and 14th centuries by Anglo-Norman settlers or wealthy Irish families, serving as defended farmsteads that combined residential, agricultural, and defensive functions.

Time and modern activity have altered the site's original form considerably. The eastern side of the enclosure has been obscured by material dumped during the re-cutting of the adjacent stream, whilst the southern fosse has been largely filled in, with a recent drainage channel cut along its outer edge. The northern bank has weathered so significantly that it's now barely visible. Despite these changes, the site remains an intriguing example of medieval rural settlement patterns in Ireland, offering a glimpse into how communities once organised and defended their agricultural holdings in the Limerick countryside.
