Parts of the older section hold unmarked grave-mounds and uninscribed stone markers alongside early twentieth-century headstones, meaning that some of those buried here left no legible name behind. The ground itself looks out to the south-east towards The Paps of Dana, the twin-peaked hills long associated in Irish mythology with the goddess Danu, a line of sight that feels unlikely to be accidental in a place where the very oldest burials resist identification.

The enclosure is rectangular, roughly 52 metres east to west and 31 metres north to south, bounded by a stone wall about half a metre thick and 1.3 metres high, finished with concrete coping. An 1894 Ordnance Survey six-inch map records the burial ground as somewhat smaller than it appears today, approximately 30 metres in each direction, and also shows a western boundary wall that no longer has any visible trace on the ground. At some point the site was extended northward by around ten metres, and that newer section holds mid- to late twentieth-century graves. The disappearance of the western wall and the discrepancy between the mapped outline and the present one suggest that the ground has been reorganised, enlarged, or altered more than once over the past century or so, though the precise sequence of those changes is not recorded.
