Without more detailed records surviving in accessible form, the house itself remains something of a gap in the documentary record, which is itself a kind of history. Across rural Connacht, many such houses were abandoned, demolished, or simply allowed to decline after the upheavals of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, leaving behind traces that are easier to read on the ground than on paper.
