The eastern entrance front stretches across nine bays, with the central five framed by rusticated pilasters, that is, columns or vertical strips given a deliberately rough, block-like texture to suggest weight and solidity. One of those pilasters is now missing, leaving an asymmetry that the original builders would not have intended. The central doorway is sheltered by a single-storey Doric portico, the Doric being the plainest and most austere of the classical orders, all clean lines and minimal ornament. It is a composed, respectable Georgian face.

The rear of the house is where the design becomes more interesting. A Venetian window, the triple-arched form with a taller arched central light flanked by two narrower flat-headed ones, sits at first-floor level above the staircase, a placement that was common in Georgian Ireland as a way of flooding a central stairwell with light. Two-storey projecting wings extend from either side of the rear elevation, giving the whole building a U-shaped footprint when seen from above. The roof is hipped, meaning it slopes down on all four sides rather than ending in gables, and the chimneys are set at noticeably uneven intervals rather than in the symmetrical pairs one might expect. The house was formerly weatherslated, a practical finish in which slates were fixed vertically to external walls as protection against driving rain, particularly common in the wetter parts of Munster. To the north-east of the house lies the site of an abbey, a reminder that this ground was significant long before any Georgian landlord thought to build here.
