By the time anyone thought to look closely, most of it had already disappeared, absorbed quietly into the working geometry of agricultural fields. What makes this site particularly interesting is not what survives but what the old maps reveal about what was deliberately removed.

The first edition Ordnance Survey six-inch map, surveyed around 1840, shows the enclosure clearly, planted with trees and sitting within a landscape of north-south field boundaries that ran up to its eastern and western sides. An enclosure of this kind, a defined area marked out by an earthen bank, may have served as a designed landscape feature associated with Barn Demesne, the estate to which this ground belonged. By the time the second edition OS map was produced between 1904 and 1905, the northern half of the enclosure had already been cleared away. The southern half followed at some later point, with the bank material pushed outward and levelled into the line of an existing field boundary, eliminating even the slight kink in the hedgerow that had briefly betrayed its presence. Two other possible enclosures survive in the immediate vicinity, one about 160 metres to the north-west and another roughly 60 metres to the south-east, which suggests this part of the hillside was once rather more structured than it appears today.

The site sits in undulating terrain and there is nothing visible at ground level now to mark where the enclosure stood. Its story is readable only through the difference between two sets of maps, separated by sixty or seventy years, in which a recognisable shape becomes first a kink and then nothing at all.
