Enclosures
Some historical sites announce themselves with ruined walls, earthen banks, or at least a helpful sign.
The enclosure recorded at Knocknaharney in County Tipperary offers none of these things. Where the Ordnance Survey six-inch map once marked a site of apparent antiquity, there now stand farm sheds and outhouses, ordinary agricultural structures that have quietly absorbed whatever may or may not have lain beneath them. No surface remains are visible, and the designation itself carries a note of scepticism, the antiquity of the site considered doubtful by those who investigated it.
