It no longer exists in any form that can be seen from the ground. The land was reclaimed, the feature levelled, and what was once a defined presence in the landscape has been entirely absorbed into ordinary rolling grassland. Knowing something was there and finding no trace of it gives the place an odd quality, the kind that tends to sharpen attention rather than satisfy it.

The enclosure appeared on the first edition Ordnance Survey six-inch map of 1839, recorded as a circular feature with a diameter of around thirty metres. By the time the OS revised its mapping between 1946 and 1947, what had been marked as an earthwork was now noted only as a circular tree-ring, suggesting the original bank or ditch had by then largely disappeared and only the ring of trees remained as evidence of its outline. A rath, which is the local name the landowner recalled, is the common Irish term for a ringfort, a type of enclosed farmstead built in early medieval Ireland, typically defined by one or more earthen banks and ditches. They were domestic rather than military in character, the centres of small agricultural households, and they survive in their thousands across the Irish countryside. This one did not. Sometime after the mid-twentieth century mapping, the field was reclaimed for agriculture and the enclosure was levelled. Its position on the south-eastern end of a north-west to south-east ridge, on the eastern edge of the Nore valley floor, would have given whoever lived there clear sightlines in every direction, which was a practical advantage not lost on those choosing where to build.
