Measuring roughly 45 metres north to south and 40 metres east to west, the enclosure sits within a cluster of related features, conjoined to the west by a second enclosure and to the south-east by a ringfort, the kind of roughly circular earthwork, typically defined by a bank and ditch, that served as a farmstead or settlement during the early medieval period. Together, they form a small complex of overlapping or adjoining boundaries whose full relationship remains unclear.

The enclosure itself was identified and reported by Simon Dowling, spotted through aerial imagery dated July 2018. What makes it quietly interesting is not just its presence but what surrounds it at field level. The first edition Ordnance Survey map, produced in the nineteenth century, already marks it, suggesting the feature was legible on the ground at that time. More telling still is the behaviour of a field boundary running roughly east to west across the area: it kinks, quite deliberately, to respect the northern arc of the enclosure. That kind of accommodation in the landscape is a small but reliable sign of age. Field boundaries do not bend around things that are not there, and when a later division in the land goes out of its way to avoid a feature, it usually means that feature carried enough presence, legal, physical, or customary, to demand it.
