The field has been reclaimed, and nothing at ground level betrays what lies beneath. The only record of its existence is an aerial photograph, taken between 1973 and 1977, on which a circular fosse, a defensive or boundary ditch dug around a central area, can be made out from above with a clarity that the ground itself no longer offers.

The enclosure was identified from a GSI aerial photograph, reference S447, captured during a survey period spanning 1973 to 1977. Circular enclosures of this kind are a common enough feature of the Irish landscape, often the remnants of ringforts, which served as enclosed farmsteads throughout the early medieval period, though without further investigation it is difficult to assign this one a firm date or function. What makes the Sandfordscourt example quietly interesting is not what survives but what has been lost. Agricultural improvement, the kind of field reclamation that reshaped so much of rural Ireland through the twentieth century, has rendered it invisible from any ordinary vantage point. The valley setting, described as offering good views in all directions, would once have made the enclosure a well-positioned feature in its landscape. Now it exists primarily as a trace in an archive photograph.
