On the south-eastern slopes of Mount Eagle in County Kerry, three small stone structures sit in rough pasture in Gleann Fán, easy to miss and easy to misread.

The southernmost of the group is the one that rewards a closer look: a circular hut of corbelled drystone construction, meaning its walls were built without mortar, with each course of stone projecting slightly inward over the last until they met at the top to form a roof. It measures just 2.2 metres across and stands 1.6 metres high, with an entrance facing south-east and a small niche set into the northern wall, the kind of recess that might once have held a lamp, a vessel, or simply a useful hollow. Its two companions to the north have fared less well. One, also circular and roughly 2 metres in diameter, survives only as a low depression in the ground. A third, oval in plan and somewhat larger at 3.5 by 2.5 metres, is similarly reduced, its entrance at the south-west the clearest indication that something deliberate once stood here.

The group was recorded and described by J. Cuppage in the 1986 Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey, a substantial survey of the Corca Dhuibhne region that documented the remarkable concentration of early remains across this part of west Kerry. Mount Eagle and its surroundings carry an unusual density of such features, and the Gleann Fán huts fit into a wider pattern of small corbelled structures associated with early monastic and pastoral life in Ireland, though no specific date or function has been assigned to these three in particular. The survival of the southern hut in something approaching its original form, while its neighbours have collapsed into barely legible earthworks, gives the group an accidental quality of contrast, one structure still inhabitable in outline, the others already returning to the hillside.
