What remains there now is easy to miss: a roughly circular arrangement of collapsed stone, measuring around 3.7 metres by 3.3 metres, the tumbled outline of a small hut that once stood on this hillside. What makes it quietly interesting is a detail preserved within the ruin, a possible lintelled niche set into the inner wall-face. A niche of this kind, formed by projecting a flat stone horizontally across a recess in the wall, suggests a deliberate interior feature, perhaps for storage or some other domestic purpose, built into the fabric of the structure rather than added as an afterthought.

The entrance, if that is indeed what it is, appears to have faced west, indicated by a single upright stone still standing in position. About twenty metres to the north, the remnants of what may have been an enclosing wall survive, hinting that the hut did not sit entirely alone but was once part of a small enclosed arrangement, the kind of modest farmstead or seasonal habitation that appears in various forms across the upland margins of Kerry and the wider Iveragh landscape. Hut sites of this type are generally associated with early medieval or earlier pastoral activity, occupied by people working hill grazing or living at the edge of more settled lowland communities, though the precise date of this particular structure is not recorded. The survey of the Iveragh Peninsula compiled by A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan, published by Cork University Press in 1996, documents it among hundreds of similar monuments scattered across this archaeologically dense part of south-west Ireland.
