The ground here is flat and low-lying, the kind of terrain that was methodically drained during the agricultural improvements of the modern era, and whatever once defined this particular patch of earth has been erased so completely that aerial photography cannot detect it.

The revised Ordnance Survey 25-inch map of 1913 recorded it clearly enough: an oblong earthwork roughly 16 metres north to south and 10 metres east to west, positioned about 6 metres to the south-east of a pond marked on the map as a spring. That combination, a shaped earthen mound beside a water source, is a pairing that recurs across Irish archaeology in contexts ranging from early medieval occupation sites to ritual or boundary markers, though what purpose this particular mound served is no longer knowable. By 1970 it had already gone entirely, with a site description from that year noting no surface remains visible. The drainage of the surrounding ground almost certainly played a role in its disappearance, whether through direct levelling during land improvement works or through the slower subsidence that follows when waterlogged soils are dried out over decades.

What remains is essentially a cartographic ghost, present on a map printed over a century ago and absent from every subsequent record. The 1913 survey captured it at what may already have been a late stage of its existence, a monument that was already being overtaken by the reshaping of the land around it.
