Promontory fort - coastal, An Seanbhaile, Co. Donegal

Forts
Along the rugged coastline of County Donegal, the promontory fort at An Seanbhaile stands as a testament to Ireland's ancient defensive architecture.
These coastal fortifications, built on naturally defensible headlands jutting into the sea, were once common throughout Ireland's Atlantic shores. The strategic position of An Seanbhaile would have offered its inhabitants commanding views of the surrounding seascape whilst providing natural protection on three sides, with only the landward approach requiring artificial defences.
