Quarry, Lismire, Co. Cork

Near the small rural townland of Lismire in County Cork, there is a site that occupies a peculiar position in the archaeological record: it is listed, but not quite believed.
Catalogued as a quarry across two separate heritage surveys conducted in 1988 and 1998, it represents a category of place that turns up more often than one might expect in Irish heritage work, a location that someone, at some point, considered worth recording, but which the evidence has never fully supported.
