A univallate rath, meaning a ringfort enclosed by a single bank and ditch, this earthwork sits on reclaimed land beside the northern tributary of the Ferta river in the Iveragh Peninsula, its remaining arc of bank and fosse still holding their shape against the slow pressures of agriculture and time. The interior, roughly 27.7 metres across on its north-south axis, is now planted with trees, which obscure whatever surface features may once have been visible underfoot.

The surviving bank is built of earth and stone, rising to a maximum external height of 3.25 metres, with a basal width of 3.4 metres and a drop of 1.5 metres on the interior face. The fosse, the external ditch that would have reinforced the defensive character of the enclosure, measures 4.7 metres wide and still sits roughly half a metre below the surrounding ground level. Along the inner face of the bank, intermittent stretches of drystone walling act as revetment, holding the earthwork in place, and at the western end this walling reaches 2.1 metres and shows a slight batter, that is, a deliberate inward lean that adds structural stability. Some of this stonework appears to be of more recent construction rather than original medieval fabric. At the north-east, a lintelled lamb shelter has been built up against the outer edge of the rath, a small agricultural addition that speaks to the site's continued usefulness as a boundary and windbreak long after its original purpose was forgotten. The whole structure looks out across the river valley to the south-west, a view that would have mattered to whoever built here, whenever that was.
