Ringforts, known in Irish as raths, are the enclosed farmsteads of early medieval Ireland, typically dating from around the fifth to the twelfth century, defined by one or more circular earthen banks that once sheltered a family, their livestock, and their outbuildings. Finding a single example in a field is unremarkable across much of Munster. Finding four in deliberate alignment is considerably less so.

This particular example, one of the four, was already visible when the Ordnance Survey produced its six-inch map of the area in 1842, recorded there as a hachured circular enclosure with a diameter of around 30 metres. On the ground today, the surviving circuit measures approximately 26.8 metres across, defined by an earthen bank reaching about a metre in height on its northern and eastern sides. The bank has been absorbed into the modern field fence system over the years, which is a common fate for these monuments where farming has continued uninterrupted across the centuries, gradually domesticating the ancient boundary into something purely practical. The pasture around it carries no obvious drama, but the earthwork itself is still legible in the landscape for those who know what they are looking at.
