What makes it quietly arresting is how little drama surrounds it. The bank is low, partially levelled over time, and the fosse, the shallow ditch dug outside the enclosure to reinforce the boundary, has silted to a depth of less than a quarter of a metre. And yet the circular logic of the place is still legible.

A ringfort, sometimes called a rath, was the standard form of enclosed settlement in early medieval Ireland, typically used as a defended farmstead for a single family and their livestock. This example sits on a natural platform on an east-facing slope, making use of a gentle fall to the south, a practical choice that would have aided drainage and visibility. The enclosure measures roughly 27.5 metres north to south and 28.7 metres east to west, making it a fairly modest example of the type. The surrounding bank is broader at the base, around 5.5 metres, than at its flattened top, around 2.1 metres, and the western sector has lost more of its profile than the rest, possibly due to agricultural activity over the centuries. An entrance gap on the north-north-west side, approximately 4.2 metres wide, is still detectable. Immediately to the west, a row of beech trees runs roughly north to south, and a modern driveway has been laid parallel to that line, meaning the enclosure now sits in quiet adjacency to the workings of a contemporary property.
