Ringforts, the enclosed farmsteads of early medieval Ireland typically bounded by an earthen bank and external ditch, are common enough across the country, but this one is notable for how little of it now remains visible above ground, and for how clearly the older maps record what was once there.

The 1900 edition of the Ordnance Survey six-inch map shows an oval enclosure measuring roughly 26 metres northwest to southeast and 22 metres northeast to southwest. By the time the site was inspected in 1987, most of that outline had been lost. Only a short stretch of bank, standing to around one metre in height and running for perhaps 15 to 20 metres along the northwestern sector, could be made out. Very slight traces of an external fosse, the shallow ditch that would originally have reinforced the bank's defensive effect, were just barely detectable. The monument had become heavily overgrown with trees, which both obscures what survives and, over time, accelerates the erosion of what remains. The ridge position is telling; whoever established the enclosure chose a site with good views in all directions, looking out over the Goul flood-plain below, a practical consideration for any early farming settlement alert to its surroundings.
