Today, only a scatter of overgrown stones remains, rising no more than half a metre above the soil, at what was once a junction between two field boundaries. It is the kind of site that registers as a faint outline on an old map and a slight irregularity underfoot, nothing more.

The first edition Ordnance Survey six-inch map, surveyed in 1839 to 1840, marks the structure plainly as a tower. By the second edition of 1903, the label had been amended to "Tower (in Ruins)", suggesting a relatively swift decline across the intervening decades. The lost tower stood roughly 76 metres east of a medieval tower house and about 210 metres from a second tower to its west-southwest. That western tower survives in much better condition and offers a clue to what this vanished structure may once have looked like. It is an eighteenth or nineteenth-century folly, a deliberately constructed ornamental building designed to evoke an older or more romantic era, measuring approximately four metres by four metres externally, with interior dimensions of around 2.45 by 2.4 metres. It rose to at least three storeys and features large pointed window openings, the kind of Gothic detailing fashionable among landed estates of that period. The Coolhill tower is thought to have been similar in character and date to this folly neighbour, the two structures probably conceived as a pair or as related landscape features, despite their proximity to the genuinely medieval tower house nearby, with which they have no architectural or historical connection.
