Ringforts
There is nothing left to see at this ringfort near Kilkerran in County Cork, and that absence is itself the point.
A rath, as this type of monument is also known, was a roughly circular earthwork enclosure, typically defined by one or more banks and ditches, used as a defended farmstead during the early medieval period in Ireland. Thousands survive across the country in varying states of preservation. This one does not survive at all. It has been completely levelled, leaving no visible surface trace on the south-facing slope where it once stood.
