The bank that defines it barely rises above ground level, and there is no visible ditch, no obvious entrance, no trace of whatever once occupied the interior. What remains is essentially a low earthen ring, roughly 41 metres across, with a bank some eight to nine metres wide but only about 30 centimetres high at its tallest. The fact that it survives at all, on a sloping hillside above a stream valley, is quietly remarkable.

Circular enclosures of this kind are scattered throughout rural Ireland, and their purposes varied considerably. Some were domestic ringforts, enclosing a farmstead and its outbuildings; others served a ritual or ceremonial function; a few may have been stock enclosures. Without a fosse, which is the ditch that typically runs alongside a bank and provides both the material for building it and an additional defensive barrier, it is difficult to place this example firmly in any one category. The absence of identifiable internal features makes interpretation harder still. Its position on a hillside overlooking a stream valley follows a pattern common to early medieval settlements in Ireland, where elevated ground offered both visibility and practical drainage, but beyond that the site keeps its history to itself.
