Enclosure, Cappanacush, Co. Kerry

At Cappanacush in County Kerry, the Ordnance Survey once recorded a small enclosure on its maps, a feature that would have indicated some form of early activity, perhaps a ringfort or field boundary, pressed against the northern edge of a neighbouring site.

The only remarkable thing about it now is that it no longer exists in any visible form. There is no surface trace remaining, which puts it in a particular category of archaeological feature: documented, catalogued, assigned a reference number, and yet effectively absent from the landscape.
